Why these stories matter

A child should never have to earn the right to feel understood.

Stephanie's books pair playful fantasy with experiences children know deeply: overwhelming sounds, uncomfortable routines, selective eating, meltdowns, and emotions that feel too large to carry alone. The stories never ask children to become someone else. They invite children and adults to meet one another with curiosity, compassion, and imagination.

“I want my stories to leave children feeling seen, capable, and a little more magical.”

Meet the author

Stephanie Thomas

Writer, parent, lifelong collector of stories

Stephanie grew up on a small hobby farm in rural Wisconsin, where imagination turned ordinary places into doorways to other worlds. After building a career in business and training, she returned to the creative work that had always called her home.

Now living near the Vermont–Quebec border, Stephanie writes children's books that blend wonder with emotional truth. She is also developing middle-grade and crossover fantasy, studying anthropology, and continuing her lifelong education as a storyteller.

What librarians are saying

Stephanie Thomas's visit to our library was wonderful! Her reading was engaging and fun for our younger readers and parents alike. There were so many little details in her book, we read it several times over and found new things in it every time. Afterwards we all spoke about how we can handle sensory issues and help others too. What a fun and educational treat!

My writing journey

A lifelong storyteller who found her way back to the page.

Writing was Stephanie's first passion. Although she stepped away to build a career, raise a family, and earn four degrees, the stories never stopped waiting. Returning to creative writing as an adult turned a private dream into published books, public readings, literary essays, and a growing mission to help young readers feel understood.

The beginning

Stories on a Wisconsin farm

Fantasy books, rural adventures, and notebooks taught Stephanie that an ordinary place could become the doorway to another world.

The long road

Building a life beyond writing

She developed a successful career as a training consultant, became a parent, and continued learning while her creative ambitions waited in the background.

The return

Choosing the writing life again

Stephanie returned to school, completed her Creative Writing degree, and began publishing creative nonfiction alongside the children's stories closest to her heart.

2026 and beyond

Five books in five months

From July through November 2026, five magical picture books bring sensory experiences, communication differences, and big feelings into the light. Middle-grade fantasy and archaeological adventure are waiting next.
